Texight 2.0 Event Description

Texight 2.0 is an escape room competitionPlayers are given a set time limit to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the rooms.
The main idea of the competition is “facing the unknown” and solving the sudden problems, which was one of TEXIGHT’s aims in the last season and the most important skill that an engineer should have.

Sessions

The sessions were the longest phase as they lasted from 28th January 2019 till 15th March 2019, where a lot of topics were explained in this period which are:

  1. Classic control 
  2. 2D AutoCAD 
  3. Coding by C 
  4. Home automation using embedded C 
  5. Home automation using KNX 
  6. Power distribution 
  7. Power automation by PLC 
  8. Solar energy 
  9. Wind energy 
  10. Design of solar tracker and wind turbine by solid works

After that phase, the teams were established so they have received a technical task in PDF file where it is including the 4 essential topics, and it represents 10% of total points of start phase that is determined in the point system, where each team has solved and sent it in technical report in order to be discussed.

Presentation

On 14th April 2019 at Faculty of Engineering Helwan University a presentation day was held in order that each team will discuss the task and according to that each team will take the suitable mark

Competition

It consisted of 4 Rooms:  

1. Classic control and PLC                                                  2. Distribution and protection

3. Home automation                                                           4. Solar and solidworks

The First room Task:

The main idea revolves around control which for instance a system can control lightning system, entertainment and electric appliances. It may also include home security such as access control and alarm systems.  In our room the group shall enter a dark room in which they will have to use their mobile phones or flashlights to be able to operate in it and also create an appropriate mood to settle in their minds. 

After advancing into the room they are supposed to see 4 switches attached to it 4 lamps separated in the room which will indicate 4 different cards written on them a fragmented story but still connected to each other to reveal the mysteries behind them. 

 These mysteries involve some tasks and applications which will apply the knowledge, codes and programs they should have learned in the sessions they attended to. For example, they will be instructed to operate fans or lights in some specific order in order to progress to the other room. We can even hide some clues concerning the other rooms. 

Task level one is mainly a hardware task while level two is a software and wiring tasks. It’s divided into two branches, the first one is a fan operates for 30 seconds using a Timer. While the other task is dependent on the idea of traffic-lights that the team will operate three lamps with different colors in a specific sequence. 

We have thought about dividing the tasks into 2 different levels, the first one will contain some of the tasks mentioned above while the 2nd level will depend partially on a specific task in level 1 which is controlling a buzzer produces sounds in specific order in which a secret code is hidden inside this sequence which can only be deciphered by Mores Code, which will reveal a 3 letter word “USB”. After figuring that out, they will turn on the TV and shall see a flash drive inserted in it which will contain a text file written on it the next and final task of this level. 

The final task will consist of programming an elevator shaft moving and stopping for a few seconds on each floor while using a photo sensor at each floor to detect the motion of the shaft and control it. 

We will build the model for the elevator using wood for the main frame to stand still on its own and have an elegant look while using cardboard as the shaft to have a light weight and can be easily manipulated by the motor controlling the shaft. 

After completing this task, they can finally advance to the next room. 

  • Second room
  1. First task 

It will be selection and distribute the luminaire that will give a specific lux and calculating the suitable sockets and circuit breakers for the loads.

They will do it on programs and practically on designed board.

Second task : After calculating lighting and other loads they need to calculate the generator needed for this load.

Third task : After selecting and connecting the circuit breakers it will be as simulation for a fault to determine the accuracy of the selections. 

  • Third room: home automation room It will be consist of multi tasks of home automation like a door that will automated and when they accomplish this mission the door will drop an envelope that contain a letter .

By accomplish all missions and collect all the letters that gives you the password to get out of the room … and this will be done by microcontrollers like AVR.

  • Forth room : First task the participant must answer a technical questions (choose) about renewable energy and collect the letters of the right answers like (aabd)(abcd)(bdce)(dcab) and the room will contain four boxes each box is named be these letters and the right box will contain a key with leads you to a box of components that will help you to connect a prototype that generate energy from wind.
  • Second task :The room will have a prototype so the participant has to calculate the load and create PV system which will suit the prototype.
